East of England – Geraldine
The region has about 41 branches, ranging from North Beds across to Norfolk, to Watford and Hemel Hempstead. Geraldine lives in St Albans with her husband Kevin and two children - Daniel aged 8 and Rebecca aged 6. She has in fact only lived in England for just over 10 years, arriving in May 1999 from Trinidad and Tobago. However, even though she was born in what some would consider 'a paradise' - warm sea breezes, swaying coconut trees and sandy beaches, she considers England her home.
Like many, Geraldine became a member when she registered for antenatal classes. She began volunteering when pregnant with her daughter and has never looked back. She is very passionate about the charity and began volunteering because she wanted to support a charity doing a wonderful job.
Geraldine joined the regional team about 3 years ago as an area rep, before becoming Joint Regional Coordinator with Miriam Blazey. She felt that she could make a difference by letting branches know that they are not alone. Now as Regional Coordinator of the East of England team that feeling has not changed.
Geraldine thoroughly enjoys her role, getting a huge buzz as well as a great sense of self-satisfaction from making a difference and doing her bit for the charity.
