New research published today in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology reports that specialist pre-pregnancy preparation for women and their partners, emphasising practical training in breathing, relaxation and massage techniques, and aimed at promoting ‘natural’ childbirth, produced no measurable outcome benefits over the standard classes offered at antenatal clinics in Sweden.

This week sees the start of National Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2009 (10-17 May). Throughout the week the NCT’s network of UK branches are calling on shops, cafes and leisure facilities to do everything they can to let local breastfeeding mums know they are welcome.

The NCT today warmly welcomes the Departments of Health announcements that they will be adopting new growth charts for children aged 0-4 years. The charts, which have been developed for the Department of Health by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, with involvement of stakeholders including the NCT, are based on the World Health Organisation’s work.
